Gramercy Tavern Nuts

Ingredients (I am sure this is too many ingredients for some of ya'll... Lauren!)

Gramercy Tavern in NYC was one of the best places for us to get a drink and some appetizers before we went out to dinner. We love cheese trays and they offered up a great one with mostly mild flavored cheese on it... we don't really love that "smelly" cheese! The drinks were delicious, I loved the "Fall Classic" which was Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Apple Cider, Apple Brandy, and Thyme. It was delicious.
However, they serve their famous Bar Nuts or Tavern Nuts while you are perched on a bar stool. These are to die for, so of course I bought the cookbook and have made them twice! I did find a recipe online that I tried and they come out about the same, just without such a salty taste to them. I will follow this recipe to make the next batches just because they don't have as much salt. But I guess salt is good when you are trying to sell drinks!

It is a beautiful restaurant, plus when we were there it was decorated for Christmas which was stunning

Gramercy Tavern Nuts

Recipe from Once Upon a Chef, originally from Mix Shake Stir

Ingredients
4 Tbs dark brown sugar
1/2 tbs salt
1 3/4 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
3/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
2 tbs water
1 1/2 tsp light corn syrup
3 1/2 cups roasted, unsalted nuts (use pecans, cashews, and almonds - note that the pecans are our favorite so maybe two cups pecans and divide the rest 1 1/2 cups between the almonds and cashews)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix all the the spices/ingredients together except for the nuts in a bowl. When well mixed, add the nuts and toss until the nuts are evenly coated. Bake for 35-40 minutes, stirring once at halfway mark. When the nuts are done, stir with a spatula and then carefully slide of life parchment and nuts off of the baking sheet onto the counter top to let them cool completely. Break up the nuts with your hands, as they can sometimes clump together. Store in a glass jar until you are ready to serve!

These make a wonderful appetizer. Think of mixing these up for your next party... New Year's would be a great time to enjoy these.
